Ford Fusion Hybrid 2010

After Ford Fusion was introduced in 2006, a new design model was introduced along with the hybrid version in 2009. Starting at $27,270, priced a little above Toyota Camry Hybrid, but with a much better gas mileage.

The Fusion Hybrid uses an evolution of the powertrain in the Escape Hybrid, with promises to be the most fuel-efficient mid-size hybrid sedan, besting the hybrid versions of the Chevy Malibu, Saturn Aura, Nissan Altima, and Toyota Camry, while falling short of smaller hybrids like the Honda Civic Hybrid and the Toyota Prius.

Ford is now saying you can get 1,000 miles out of a single tank of 87-octane with its new 2010 Fusion Hybrid but to meet this rather impressive goal, reaching 57 miles per gallon, an attainable figure since Ford's preliminary testing indicates the Fusion Hybrid can manage up to 70 mpg, but only on special driving conditions.

But it would be best just to stick to the reliable EPA numbers.

20% of all vehicles sold in U.S. to be hybrids by 2020

According to a recent study conducted by JPMorgan, hybrid sales are about to take off. Last year, there were some 480,000 total hybrid vehicles sold around the world, which represents less than 1% of global sales. By 2020, though, JPMorgan predicts that 11.28 million hybrids will be sold annually, representing over 13% of all vehicles sold.

Much of that increase in sales will be attributed to the United States, as the report suggests that hybrids will capture nearly 20% of total market share in this country. The study suggests that the increase in hybrid vehicle sales will be influenced by such factors such as increased pressure from government agencies to reduce fuel consumption and overall vehicle emissions, as well as a drastic reduction in the cost of hybrid technology.

High mileage per gallon and a price well below $18k, the new 2010 Honda Insight is aimed at the masses, with high affordability and the known efficiency of Honda Hybrids.

With a 63.4 mile per gallon efficiency, Honda believes that real-world mileage will be much better than the official EPA rating of 40-city and 43-highway.

A first for the U.S., the Eco mode allows battery-only operation "at low speeds for about a mile, if conditions permit." This is still the nickel-metal battery pack, after all. The other modes should be fairly obvious, with Eco providing the best mileage and the Power giving the car a "sportier feel."

The optional Solar Panel roof will generate power for circulating air and keeping the interior temperature from going too high. There's even a remote-controlled A/C system that can run on battery alone and lets you set the temperature before you get in.
